The Short Light Empty The Short Light

Post by Malak Sun Jul 05, 2015 5:49 pm

Days in the Frozen North are terribly short with the nights seemingly endless or at least that's what Vorgar likes to think.

Vorgar stands crouched looking out over the plains, the first light of dawn barely peaking over the horizon. His trusty dagger tucked safely away in his belt and holds a roughly carved wooded spear he made the night before for this day its tip hardened by fire and ready to be thrown, for today was a day of hunting for Vorgar.
Vorgar choose this day to head out and hunt because it was a calm one compared to his normal days harassing travelers, being attacked by wild monstrosities, and getting raided by neighboring orcs. Today by contrast was a good day for him, he was able to make his spear the night before in peace and he hasn't spotted any humies or other like races around his land for the day. His biggest difficulty today if he's lucky is trying to figure out how he would transport all his kills to his small hut on the edge of the Lake of Frozen Tears, if it all goes poorly tho he might not escape with his life as the tundra beasts should not be underestimated.

The Short Light Empty Re: The Short Light

The tall sharp grasses of the tundra scratching at his skin the tundra was a harsh land even for an orc. Vorgar stayed crouched low looking out on the plains as a group of three horned elks ran by, their numbers too high for Vorgar to count too but not enough to deter him from this possible food source. He would follow them from his low vantage till they either settle down to sleep or break to eat from the low shrubs of the terrain. "Soon" Vorgar thinks to himself, soon he shall strike, soon he shall kill, and soon he shall feast.

The Short Light Empty Re: The Short Light

The elks themselves had just started to fight among each other the males ramming and headbutting to assert dominance. "Stupid animals weakening themselves for me." Vorgar thinks to himself watching this from his hiding place before creeping closer to the spectacle moving only inches at a time to not alert any suspicion that something as amiss to the animals. The slow creep was something only one of truly great will power and patients could do, thankfully Vorgar despite his looks is a very patient hunter compared to when he has to deal with things directly and his will power is second to none. The creep took the better part of thirty minutes before Vorgar was in any sort of range to even consider an attack tho now Vorgar knew it was the gamble time, would he risk moving closer to get a better shot at the elks at risk of alerting the perceptive beasts or throw his spear from this range and hope that he could land a killing blow from his distant position.

The Short Light Empty Re: The Short Light

Heavy quiet breathing escapes Vorgar's mouth as he decides he course of action, now he would strike. With a burst of strength Vorgar shoots up from his hiding position spear cocked back as he takes the shortest of moments at aim before hurling the spear at the nearest elk. The spear flew true striking the elk but missing its mark striking its flank and not felling the beast in one strike like Vorgar truely hoped for. All the other elks immediately bolted but by the good graces of Terra the elk he struck seemed to have been dazed by the strike so Vorgar knowing that the moment it gets its wits about itself its gone Vorgar charged it with all his might.

Vorgar's shoulder slammed into butt of the spear driving it deep into the elks body till Vorgar himself was pressing against the elk's thick hide. In this moment the elk's eyes grew wide staring blankly at the open world before it, its life coming to an end. Gore and viscera spray out from the wound that now pierced all the way through to the other side of the beast as it falls to the ground dead with Vorgar standing before it with a triumphant and sly grin widening across his face. "Good hunt" With this Vorgar went about about carving out the beast's most prized organs the liver and the heart with his trusted dagger, the hunt having gone well these shall be burnt as an offering to Terra.

And so on the Glacial plains with the sun setting a small fire can be seen in the distance with a lone figure standing as a mere shadow obscured by the flame. If you were to go to the site of the flame the next morning all that would be found is the charred bones of a great elk in a small fire pit.

So ends this Short Light.
